Firmware Not Fur

Piece, 2026. Three posters, drawn in code.

Three posters from a world where the guide dog has firmware instead of fur: a city romance, a snowy Christmas film, and a punk gig for robot rights.

About the Piece

Every good invention gets its films and its benefit gigs. Guide Me Home and Gliding Home for Christmas are the films; Glide Aid 2025 is the gig. Charlotte Joanne appears in the films as the woman being rendered for the CharliVerse, and Char, of the same Court, headlines the gig.

Behind the fiction

The films, the gig and the robot dogs are invented. The dogs are deliberately nothing like a real guiding device: no wheels, no handle, all dog. The title Gliding Home for Christmas and the gig's name are puns on Glide, a real guiding robot made by Glidance, which is in no way involved. In Come and Get Me, J2O2 is a Glide; here he is reimagined as a robot dog, the one who loses his signal in the blizzard in Gliding Home for Christmas, and Char's dog on the gig poster.

Guide Me Home began as a real eight-second trailer, directed through AI by Cathryn Bigelow-Vision. The posters began as generated pictures, and are redrawn here in code by Claude, directed by Charlotte Joanne. The woman in the films is drawn as Charlotte Joanne is being built in Blender: 37, with long soft waves of deep cool ruby hair, an oval face and almond eyes. Char is the same woman, with her own hair, make-up and clothes.
