Blind Drawing School
Learning to draw, colour and paint without sight.
About the Piece
Blind Drawing School is a Blind Ant design-fiction project by Charlotte Joanne.
It isn't an operating school yet. There are no enrolled students, no teaching staff, no premises and no accredited courses.
The first course is a proposal. The teaching method is an experiment. The tools will be built and tested using Claude Skills, SVG and code-based drawing.
The intention isn't necessarily to establish a school. It is to investigate what such a school would need to teach, how its students might learn, and what happens when visual art can be constructed without visual feedback.
The project begins with a personal question.
Objects
- Welcome to Blind Drawing School: The imagined school’s prospectus proposes drawing lessons, code pencils, AI tuition and accessible sketchbooks.
- Learning to Draw Again, After 40 Years: Charlotte Joanne asks whether code can become her pencil, and claims the right to begin with a dreadful cat.
Behind the fiction
The school and its prospectus are design fiction. The desire to learn to draw is Charlotte Joanne’s own. The course is proposed, and the teaching tools have not yet been built or tested. No successful learning outcomes are claimed.
The educational model is inspired by the Royal Drawing School’s Drawing Foundations programme. Blind Drawing School is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Royal Drawing School.
The two Objects preserve Charlotte Joanne’s supplied text, arranged as a prospectus and a personal essay. Codex prepared the web structure and this explanatory note.
